Energy applications
Local processing with Java Card applets provide “privacy by design.” Raw consumption data can remain in the meter and does not need to be exported. Applets include:
- Billing for TOU tariffs
- Settlement
- Statistics
- Theft detection
- Service quality for DNOs
- Microgeneration
- Consumer access to their consumption data via trusted services company
- Platform for appliance and lifestyle inference for energy saving and assisted living
- New applets can be dynamically deployed
Java Card technology provides a secure environment for applications (called “applets”) that run on a secure element in the Hydra Gateway. Multiple applications can be deployed to the secure element, and new ones can be added to it even after the Gateway has been installed. Applications written in the Java programming language can be executed securely on Hydra Gateways from different vendors.
